A spray to disable a fly so that I can swot it

I don’t like fly spray as it affects my throat. so I wandered if there is a spay that will stick to a fly to impede it’s flying ability long enough to swot it.  Meths occasionally works, but I wondered if there is anything better.

My sister swears by hairspray for spiders, so it may well work.

Why not just get an electric swat bat, we use one in the summer. Obviously it’s not needed throughout the cooler months but ours is plugged in overnight to catch any bugs while we sleep.

I used to use window cleaner on wasps - because it was the spray to hand.

Spray on deodorant is great.  You can even light it and use it like a flame thrower.
Bit dangerous though.
