Can 'new' state pension be claimed if already in retirement

If one or both of your pensions is/are defined benefit (aka final salary), it is highly likely you were 'contracted out' while you were a contributing member of the scheme(s).Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1

You said you stopped working at 62 but paid NI up until 65 ?You really do need to get a full breakdown of your NI history, it is available through your on line tax account, as there is a possibility you could make up a couple of years post 2016. One of those years becomes no longer available in April next year so you need to act fairly quickly.1

OK thanks for the info. I have to be honest and say I don't fully understand the contracted out process
You mention that you have two pensions resulting from employment related schemes.
When were you a member of these schemes?
What kind of schemes were they? Defined Benefit? Defined Contribution?
If you don't know, what is the name of the scheme (s)?

Are you ex Armed Forces? (Fubar being a Service 'expression'). If so, then that pension was contracted out for a start.
