UK Citizen ID Card

Hi there,
My daughters college are submitting documents for a DBS check for possible employment and it is proving to be bit of a nightmare!
The only photo ID she has is a passport, but this expired in June (we are getting it renewed for a holiday next year), but waiting for a new passport to come through might take a while.
The college tutor said about getting a Citizen ID card instead. I have searched and have found this link https://www.citizencard.com/apply-for-a-uk-id-card-online
there is also a post office version.
I am really unsure about whether this link is genuine and whether this is the card the tutor is talking about. Can anyone help me out please?
She doesn't have a driving licence, so that one isn't an option.
Thanks in advance.

The trusted document that she has is her birth certificate, which has already been provided. She doesn't have any of the other documents.biscan25 said:Do you actually need photo ID?

The documents that have been provided to college are her birth certificate, last bank statement and her passport which is expired. College have told me that she needs another photo ID, as they can't use her passport.
To be honest, it's like the blind leading the blind, as I literally don't have a clue and some of the staff at the college are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £18,886.271 -
I agree route 2 seems best, all she needs is birth certificate, letter from her tutor and bank statement.Abbafan1972 said:

For some applications, not international travel obviously, a recently expired passport is acceptable as proof of ID. So it is worth checking if that is the case for the Citizen card you mention?1

The key word there is "guidelines". An employer is of course entitled to set stricter requirements if they so choose.biscan25 said:Do you actually need photo ID?

From experience I really wouldn't bother with the CitizenCard, you'll have extreme difficulty in applying as their automated system using an image of a passport is awful and the alternative referee options are really limited.
My son applied for one and they wouldn't accept the image of his (valid) passport, we just couldn't get an image free of some sort of glare that was acceptable to them. Wasted weeks and they also seem to effectively have a no refund policy.
In the end he applied for a provisional driving license a couple of weeks ago, ID photo taken at a shop in a local supermarket with an access code emailed, to him, all applied for online and got the driving license in 5 days. What's more a driving license should be universally accepted (more so than the Citizen Card anyway).0 -
Get the passport renewed ASAP. My partner has just done that and new passport arrived in a few days
