Can Anyone Recommend a Good Camera?

Hi
I am looking to buy a new compact digital camera for general use (nothing too complicated) and wondered if anyone can recommend one.
I currently have a Nikon S3 but have never been that happy with the picture quality. I mainly use the camera to take photos of my kids so looking for something that takes good quality, sharp pictures but not too many fancy features.
My budget would be around £150 - £200 max although hoping I might be able to pick something up in the January sales.
Any recommendations would be fantastic. Thank you.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I was actually looking at the Ixus 70 last night and it seems good for the price so might look into that one more.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply - much appreciated.0 -

bearing in mind how you are planning to use the camera, one with face recognition may be useful, as these settings will ensure faces are in focus and correctly exposed. One such is fuji f480, currently on offer at boots.0 -
