Solar Installation Costs - Advice Please

Options
Hi - I'm hoping someone can comment regarding solar installation costs, based on the following:

I've been quoted £20k for 19 panels (Jinko - 7kW system) + 9.5kW GivEnergy battery, the other quote I received was £30k for a similar system and so appeared to be reasonable. However...

  • Looking at the Midsummer site the cost of the components is £14k approx and so £6k installation
  • EOn recently contacted me and quoted £15k for a similar installation (however have not confirmed the battery yet)
I appreciate the world and his dog is trying to get solar quotes and installation at the moment and so this is likely to be pushing up prices and so there is a trade off between price and installation speed (the £20k company estimate installation by November, EOn estimate at least 6 months).

But - is £20k reasonable as clearly as the price falls the payback calculation also becomes much more atrractive.

That's awful. Look at other threads recently posted.

That is nearly twice what I paid for a similarly sized installation in February (£11k for 6.4kWp + 10kWh battery). I know prices have gone up quite a bit, but that seems excessive. Where are you based?
    6.4kWp (16 * 400Wp REC Alpha) facing ESE + 5kW Huawei inverter + 10kWh Huawei battery. Buckinghamshire.

I think you are being very generous with that £14k figure, it seems too high. Are you adding VAT?
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

The quoted price is ridiculously high for a budget brand of panel (Jinko = Chinese).  I would avoid. I would also not rush things - you are not going to generate much till next March.

Where are you located? Are you convinced you require a battery?

    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 3680 HD Wave Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Yes - that's Inc VAT. I spoke to Midsummer today and if I understand correctly there is VAT payable on the components, but 0% on the cost of installation.

    10 Perlight 400 watt panels
    GivEnergy 3.6kw inverter
    GivEnergy 5.2kwh battery
A whole load of other stuff, costs itemised.

Ordered around March, fitted recently.£10,000 no VAT, local company in Milton Keynes.  Pigeon protection was on top, & daylight robbery!  If I'd known it was 'outsourced' I'd have employed that company direct myself!

A neighbour used a different company a few months before us, paid about £1k less, can't comment on the details (?), but they have really ugly cables (trunking covered) running about 12 feet along 2 walls INSIDE his house. (I think it was 'Screwdriva who used the phrase 'the least line of resistance' when mentioning fitting habits of some installers).

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Thanks - that's a huge difference in price, given I would need 9 more panels and they are relatively cheap per unit.

There's 0% VAT on the entirety of a certified installation, both parts & labour.
So your £14k inc VAT of parts will only cost you £11700 as part of your installation. The installer is taking £8300 for everything else, not £6000.
