my mum is 78 and gets basic state pension and some pension credit, she has 16 years full credit and 18 years either part or no credit.
we have found out about the HRP and wondered if it would make a difference.
there are about 9 years with no credits or a small credit where she claimed child benefit . would it make a difference to her money wise, because it wouldn't take her up to the full 30 years.
thanks

How much pension does she receive ?As she reached SP age prior to 2010 she needed 39 years to receive the full basic pension. HRP was handled differently before 2010, credits were not awarded but the number of years required to receive the full pension was reduced so she would not see this as a credit on her NI record.0

my mum is 78 and gets basic state pension and some pension credit,
Do you have access to your mother's statement of increase in benefits which she would have received around March this year?
What exactly does it show about how her pension is made up?

Prior to 2010, men (SPA 65) required 44 qualifying years and women (SPA 60) required 39 to be eligible for a full Basic State Pension.
The OP's mother reached SPA around 2004.
HRP was introduced in 1978 at which time the OP's mother would have been in her mid thirties so quite possibly not working outside the home or perhaps working on a part time basis while she had young children.
Article below from 2009 explains the system.

I will have to get a pension award from her when I see her next, the years which she was eligible it says no contributions made and a couple have a minimal contribution.
I will revisit when I get some paperwork1 -

It also passports her to full Council Tax reduction and Housing Benefit (if she rents)
