Money saving hassles

I thought I would put together a new thread .... Does the wisdom of the people here find that Money saving can be hard work ? ... One often encounters difficulties and occasionally there is no saving to be had at all in the end
My partner scoffs a bit that trying to save money is OK .. but it leads to bother and I am afraid I am becoming more and more Victor Meldrew ish.
For example ... I wanted to buy my son the "World of Warcraft - Burning Crusade" extension pack for Christmas, yes, I,m sad to say we are WOW addicts.
Being an MSE type I searched the shopping sites and found it for £9.50 plus P and P in M and S as opposed to £24.99 locally. I ordered it from M and S on line. They send the actual base game .. not what I ordered, .. So I phoned and complained .. they re-ordered .. and guess what I got the same again. So .. I went to the local store, .. Car parking fees, Petrol, etc ... After a protracted discussion M and S have the wrong product code on the product ... by mistake they credited me twice .. once for the original .. once for it's replacement .. So I went away £13 up and bought the thing for £24.99 locally .... More petrol and parking.
Very little saving to be had ... 3 phone calls .. 2 sets of parking fees etc.
This is not my only tale of woe,
Does buying cheaply equate to bother ? ... it seems to in my experience or am I doing something wrong, or does bother just come along anyway.

It's like anything..the more you do it, the more experience/knowledge you build up, the more it comes naturally. It's just a series of steps in the right direction. It can be hard and it can be a hassle but it can also have glorious (little) highlights which can keep you motivated. Good luck! I'm still struggling but am enjoying it more now:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I think it's just life today to complex and half the time you get the wrong thing. Buy moneysaving is worth it mostly.0

I tend to shop online with the big retailers but use codes, discount days etc to bring costs down from store prices. I also use pricerunner etc. Since it is reputable stores mostly I don't have much trouble (although M&S seems to be the exception!!). That said I had a major tussle with bodyshop lately who took my order, apparently dispatched it, told me twice that the problem was that I was expecting the parcel too fast (8 days after order!!) and finally confirmed that they didn't deliver to NI so nothing had ever been sent (when I phoned them of course). Grrr...0

YEs I think moneysaving can be very time costly. Yes things these days do take longer and do tend to go wrong more IMHO , but I think that there does have to come a point where you think I could spend another hour and find it 1p cheaper! Not worth it.
However I think that your incident really had nothing to do with money saving - M&S is hardly the place you look for moneysaving usually! I think your experience is an example of things seem to go wrong a lot more often these days.
TBH I really feel that mistakes and errors are becoming so commonplace that I for one am surprised when they don't happen! Nothing is ever straight forward nowadays.0
