Sorry to ask this possibly silly question but I have never been one to buy during sales.
I will be buying a 32 inch LCD HDTV soon, however I thought I might as well buy it during the sale season as I could make some good savings on it.
Only problem is that I cannot buy it until the 7th Jan because I currently have no money (and it's nothing to do with xmas, I don't celebrate it).
Will the sales still be on until then? I am willing to haggle my rear part off! LOL. Perhaps I could say, well it is January, I would expect to get a fair deal off? The TV I'm interested in is an Acoustic Solutions set advertised at £350, but I'm hoping I can get it down to at least £300 (I am interested in this particular set because I saw it in store and I am happy with the picture quality and it is in the lower price range).
Can it be done?0 -

Acoustic Solutions, although a trading company, exclusively allow Argos to sell tv's under their name. Hence, apart from ebay, Argos is the only retailer which will sell these tv's (a few other online retailers sell refurbished models).
With Argos, there is no haggling - the price you see is the price you pay.
I would be tempted to look around the high-street sales at branded tv's i.e Samsung, Sony, etc - make a note of the model number - then compare prices online.
Remember places like John Lewis offer a store price match policy, and there tv's come with a 5 yr warranty.
We did this a couple of years back when they price matched currys for us, we got it for £80 less than they were selling it for, plus we got the 5 yr warranty for free!
Hope this helps.0 -
Does John Lewis price match online,
also do they price match sale items?0 -

They only price match companies that have a high street store. I believe they price match Empire Direct, although mainly an online company they do have a few high street stores.
Yes, they match sale items. They match the ticketed price available to the customer, usual t&c's must be instock, and available for immediate delivery or take away.
Here's something more that may help -
JL’s Never Knowingly Undersold policy
This policy is described in a leaflet http://www.johnlewis.com/jl_assets/pdf/nku_jl.pdf which I have summarized below:
We set very competitive prices for all JL stores. Our buyers set prices so that it is unlikely you will find the same product selling for less in other UK shops. We constantly check prices in local shops and if we find the same item cheaper, we lower our price to match, even during Sales. The branch checks the prices of shops in the local area that customers might realistically cover during a single shopping trip. If we find another shop within this area selling at a lower price the same product that is part of our own standard offer, the branch will lower its shelf price to match. As a result all our customers benefit from the lower price, not only those who spot the difference.
Basic PM rules:- The comparison must be with exactly the same item (brand, model, colour, size etc)
- The competitor must offer the same availability on the item as we do (eg they have it in stock if we have it in stock).
- JL match the shelf-edge price at which the competitor displays the item for sale to customers generally (ie there must be a price tag on the product)
- JL will not match a negotiated or special price for particular individuals (eg their store card holders).
- We expect the goods to be offered on equivalent terms, and so we take into account any ‘hidden extras’ charged by the competitor, such as delivery charges for items that normally have to be delivered.
- Our commitment to checking and lowering prices applies on the same basis to products in our competitors’ Sales. Where a competitor has a very short term promotion lasting only one or two days, we may not have enough time to check and change each price. However, our refund promise (see below) still applies.
The above means that when another local shop is offering at a lower price, the local JL will drop their price for everyone by changing the price in the shop. This is why some JLs are cheaper than other on some items. You can get other JLs to pricematch that JL.0 -

Wow, I didn't know that at all. No wonder I couldn't find the same TV elsewhere.saintscouple wrote: »With Argos, there is no haggling - the price you see is the price you pay.
Oh dear, so you can't even haggle when ordering on the phone?saintscouple wrote: »I would be tempted to look around the high-street sales at branded tv's i.e Samsung, Sony, etc - make a note of the model number - then compare prices online.
Yes, that's a good idea. I was also quite interested in the LG 32" LCD TV which is advertised at PC World for £400, but would need to get that price down quite a bit. Maybe 340 for that particular set as it is a bigger brand than Acoustic.saintscouple wrote: »Remember places like John Lewis offer a store price match policy, and there tv's come with a 5 yr warranty.

It does indeed. That sounds like a great way of getting a 5 year warranty (I know the sale of goods act covers manufacturing faults for UP TO 6 years, but it is good to have ANY fault covered for 5 years, not just a manufacturing one, for no extra cost).
You have helped greatly. Many thanks to you saint.0 -

No, not to my knowledge.jibberjabber25 wrote: »Yes, that's a good idea. I was also quite interested in the LG 32" LCD TV which is advertised at PC World for £400, but would need to get that price down quite a bit. Maybe 340 for that particular set as it is a bigger brand than Acoustic.
If you find the same set cheaper from any of these online retailers - Amazon.co.uk, Argos, Asda, B&Q, Comet, Dabs, Dell, Evesham Technology, Game, Gamestation, Halfords, HMV, Jessops, John Lewis, Maplin, Misco, Play, Staples, Tesco, Toys r Us, Virgin, Woolworths. (ok i know tv's are not sold at some of these stores, but put the full list up anyhow). Then Pc World will price match it, then deduct a further 10%!!!
