Hi All 👋
I'm new around here, I'm just wondering paid entry competitions, do you play them? Have you ever won? Which ones would you recommend and why?
Thanks,
L

No. MSE is about money saving not money spending and does not allow pay to enter competitions except for minimal costs.
The heading for the Post Phone and Text comps sub-board says "Spending to enter competitions is NOT MoneySaving. Always include the free entry route if there is one and never post a pay-to-enter competition costing more than £2.10"Bob1 -

No, if a payment of any amount is required I do not enter - cannot say I have checked them all but when it is possible to find out they all offer very poor odds and better can be had elsewhere if you have a desire to gamble with money instead of just time3

The only time I have paid to enter a competition is when I have purchased an item that I need (eg a new fridge), or want (eg a bar of chocolate) which is associated at the time with a competition requiring such purchase. Only ever won one, back in 1990, in the pre-World Wide Web days of purchase and slogan comps, when I bought toilet rolls from Tesco and won a Rover Metro GTi.4 -
I personally only enter SNR text comps or as pate-ci0 said above any items I will buy at the supermarket and happen to have a competition on them. I guess its down to how much you're willing to spend, if anything. The bigger prizes I have won have been from free entry though. Hope this helps!3

I don’t pay to enter competitions either, if there is a free entry or postal route such as the ones on ITV, www.itv.com/win, I might send off a postcard which is still cheaper than paying.
Other ones I have sent postcard entries for are 7days performance, https://7daysperformance.co.uk/, and Dream car giveaways, https://dreamcargiveaways.co.uk/, haven’t won on a postal entry yet, but I did see that someone had won recently on a postal entry for one of the ITV competitions.
The last time I won on a Standard Network Text competition was a few years ago on a local radio station.Posting is a privilege, not a right. This is a privately-owned site. I don't touch postal or text unless they are freepost or free text.2 -
I sometimes enter the odd paid to enter competitions, there are some great communities and I tend to enter it with the some of the money I win from free spins on other sites, so it makes me feel like it isn't coming from my pocket. I only tend to enter those that are under £1 but have recently entered some that was above £3.
I introduced my partner to them, when there was free competitions, he entered a couple of the paid ones and won me an amazon fire HD tablet, then something worth £1500 on a different site and then a few other things. I have yet to win.
Only ever put as much money in that you can afford to loose though, as a win is never guaranteed. It gets addictive the more you win though, so be very careful.
There are soo many free competitions out there though, if you concentrate on entering them, nothing lost, only time, but if you enjoy it and can spare that time, I see nothing wrong with that. Sadly not as many gets shared on here anymore and the community has fell a bit flat, so it would be lovely to get it back again.
I do find the Compers Challenge each year helps keep me going and a lovely bunch of people 😊
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.2
