Tracing a Pension

My father in law recently passed away, he mentioned often that his occupational pension had a provision to continue payments to his widow.
The paperwork is long lost after a house move.
Now I know the standard answer is the pension tracing service, but...
The information they have is a postal address that is now a beauty parlour and a phone number that diverts to a Vodafone mobile that is never answered and messages left go unreturned. The company has been long lost in a serious of acquisitions, sell offs and name changes.
Any thoughts on where to turn next???

Try the name that appears on his bank account statements for the pension payments?

FIL was in receipt of the pension?
Didn't he get an annual P60/statement of pension increase from the pension administrator?

OP - any idea what the company's original name was, in case anyone here just happens to be able to help?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0
