Dental query discomfort since cleaning and BMS flare up

I saw a new dental hygienist yesterday...no problem apart from some sensitive spots. He scaled them with electric scaler and water suction. I am in Wales and NHS patient. I was given a outline of treatment etc, so all good.
For the last few years my dentist has just scaled them manually and I have rinsed repeatedly - I assumed this was covid safety measures to reduce any spray from the electric scaling, I have never had any problem.
But yesterday I was in some discomfort which has eased but my lips are sore and I have a real rough feeling on my lower front teeth (front and back) and I just can't shift it with cleaning. While it is not pain it is off putting and feels quite alien to me.
I wonder if our esteemed dentist on MSE may give there opinion.
I have a great dentist and I have no intention of complaining as this is probably something which will settle. But advice would help, I will mention it next time I see dentist and ask if hygienist can do it just manually.
Just to add I have BMS and maybe I should have realised that fine particals from cleaning would add to BMS problems as my lips are really burning today.

My standard answer - I can't really give any accurate advice, as I can't see you - But...
Having BMS generally means someone's mouth can easily be upset, so this probably is just a temporary flare up.
Hand scaling only was a response to Covid, but things were getting back to normal a fair few months ago. It would depend on individual dental care provider's attitudes to risk whether they went back to ultrasonics or not straight away.
I have a few patients who prefer hand scales only, and if your own oral hygiene is pretty decent, then you could get away with that. It might just be that hand scales weren't really doing the job for you as effectively as the ultrasonic one could, which is why you had such a reaction to it this time as there was more that needed getting off? In which case future U/S cleans shouldn't give such a reaction, but are better being done for you regularly?
Only your practice can really answer this question. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.1 -
@Toothsmith as always a very decent reply and thank you again. I will discuss it with my dentist in six months and I have noticed the roughness at the back has settled and just lips a bit sore but settling.
I am lucky I found a great dentist after my previous one retired.
Many thanks again0
