Old civil service pension

Hi all. I’m hoping someone has been in a similar situation or has some information that might be able to help my mam. She worked for the civil service between 1970 and 1976 and spoke to them about claiming the pension she would have accrued. They’ve advised her that she needed to have worked 5 years between 1972 and 1988 to receive anything, but the years prior to that aren’t considered. If I look on the gov civil service pension tracker, it states if you left between those years you only needed to work 5 years beforehand, which she has, but some were before 1972. Can anyone help at all or she’d any advice? Is there a complaints process, or is that a waste of time? I’m happy to find out more information from her if that would help. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Pensions in the early 70s were very different to today especially for women. Also likely that service under age 18 doesn't count. Some dates may help, there are a few experts on here.Good link here https://www.civilservicepensionscheme.org.uk/your-pension/managing-your-pension/finding-your-unclaimed-pension/And the full 228 page rules here scheme-rules-section-ii-1972-section-from-november-2016.pdf (civilservicepensionscheme.org.uk)Section 2 covers eligibility.

Thank you very much. She started in September 1970 aged 16, so I think it will be due to the under 18 criteria. She turned 18 in may 1972 and left in April 1977 🙈😩 if only she had known back then I guess. Do you believe there is any way to contest this?0

Do you believe there is any way to contest this? No, that was the rules back then. My AFPS pension was much the same but I stayed the course - prior to 1975 you had to serve 22 years to get any pension !
