Buyer opened case then immediately closed it - can't refund

Ok, never had this happen before in my 20 years of being on eBay.

Buyer bought an item and despite doing everything they can to try and sort the issue, it's obviously faulty. Via messaging I agreed to a full refund and asked them to open a case - they did so then immediately closed it and I can't see any way of refunding them. They have a LOT of feedback, mostly as a buyer so surely can't be the first time they've opened a case but only they would know. It was bought new but not worth time and hassle for me to return it to retailer so told them just to keep or dispose of it since I'm outside of return window anyway.

Anyone any ideas as obviously would like to refund them but also get my fees back which were £13. TIA.

Could you go to your 'paid and despatched' list,  find that order and click on 'cancel order'?  If you can, choose  the option that buyer asked to cancel.

Can't see that option. I can refund but unsure if I receive the fees back since buyer has closed the case. Hmm.

UPDATE - and let's say I'm not too happy.

I asked the buyer to contact eBay. They did. eBay then sent me a somewhat threatening message to say we've looked into this case and since you've not refunded the buyer, we have seen in their favour and given a full refund.

HELLO eBAY, i said in messages to the buyer I wanted to issue a refund but they closed the case. I then can't see a way to refund the buyer. Just hope I'm given my ebay fees back since it was even me that told the numpty buyer to open a case so I can refund them in full.

Phone eBay and talk to them, it shouldn’t be difficult to get this resolved . If the rep can’t understand what you mean, phone back and try again.
