Civil Service Classic pension query

Members who were aged within 10 years of Normal Pension age on 31 March 2012 were permitted to remain in classic for the rest of their career when most members moved to alpha in 2015. Those within 10 to 13.5 years of normal pension age on 31 March 2012 were permitted to remain in classic for a period beyond 1 April 2015.kassy64 said:I have recently retired from the Civil service and Classic was phased out from 2015 and everyone was moved on to the career average scheme Alpha by 2017/2018.
Due to the McCloud judgment, all members (including those who were previously going to be in classic for the rest of their career) were moved to alpha for future service from 1 April 2022.The McLoud judgemnet will allow us to extend that to 31st March 2022 in due course (probably by late 2023).
The McCloud judgment and consequential 2015 Remedy enables in-scope members to choose either classic or alpha service for the period 2015-22. Schemes must enact the change no later than 1 October 2023 but then have 18 months to send out choices to members, who then have 12 months to respond with their choice.Maybe different departments moved at different times.
They did not.The Classic element of the pension will be linked to her final salary (probably best of last 3 years) when she leaves the Civil service.
The best of last 3 years only applies if full-time equivalent pensionable earnings decreased (just working part of the year doesn't count), which is quite unusual, so it is usually just last 12 months of pensionable earnings.0 -
Its not uncommon in my line of work (very common in fact) where annual salary stays the same or a small % increase and the Govt attack and cut allowances for unsociable, shift working and weekend payments (which are pensionable). So, for thousands of shift working civil servants it is rarely the last year of service used, more likely to be your salary 3 years ago that is used.hugheskevi said:0 -
Her online statements go back to 2019. Lump sum and annual pension increased for 2020 and 2021 but 2022 is the same as previous year. Thanks0
