Advice needed - to ask to go interest free or not?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could offer some advice?
So unfortunately my wife has been diagnosed with stage three Bladder Cancer and as she is self employed will probably have to wind down the business. I am a teacher and have opted to go part time from this September to allow me to help with childcare (we have two young children).
Does anyone know if our mortgage company (Santander) is likely to allow us to go on an interest only mortgage for some time as I will be unable to pay it on my own. This is further complicated by our two mortgage products ending soon (one in Oct 22 one in May 23) so unsure if I should fix and then ask? I don’t want to jeopardise any chance we have of being able to switch to an interest free mortgage.

Sorry to hear you are going through this.
Try contacting the bank, maybe they can give some few months break.
It won't be interest free but perhaps break to get things in order.1 -
I think you mean Interest only.
Do you have an Life Assurance of Critical illness cover ?
If you reduce your hours you may well be able to claim Carers allowance for looking after your wife1 -
Sorry, yes I meant interest only mortgage - I’ll update my post.
We both have life insurance, but alas no critical illness cover
For the carers allowance, I reduced my hours but had to start a new job in new school. Does that count?0
