  • September has finished with £7.56 left, thanks to some fruit and veg from Olio, apples from the community orchard and a gift of pears from friends.  I did spend on lunch at a cafe yesterday, but the cost of that came from my fun money as I met up with friends I haven't seen for ages.

I'll update my total and hop over to October.
Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget
  • Oops, did not realise I had forgotten to add in a spend, which brings the total to £726.59/730.  Still in credit just by less than I thought, still ok.

Finishing with £16.00 left in the kitty which I'm v pleased about.
there was some jiggery pokery this month as we had a week's self catering holiday so I used grocery budget for most shopping but holiday budget for luxury holiday treats of crab and steak (which were both delicious) and wine.  We had a takeaway one night and a meal out on another evening paid for from holiday budget.
so to cut a long story short it's not been a standard month so I've no idea if the underspend represents good budget management or a bit of a fiddle but I'm pleased with £16.

  • In total I spent £342.78 when I had a budget of £250. £89.42 of that was a meat bulk buy so £253.36 on the monthly shopping. I am away from 11-30 October so shouldn't need big deliveries for OH in that time. I will post the 6th, 13th and 20th orders before the 11th as I have to order them before I go.
All that clutter used to be money
  • I have a lot of little spends in various places to admit to as well as a bit of jiggery pokery with a money off voucher which kept my total lower than it would have been otherwise, but if I hadn't had the voucher I wouldn't have bought some things this month IYSWIM.
Anyway, I spent £2.10 in M*rks, £3.20 in Mr T, £0.36 in M*rks, £13.08 in Waitflower, £2.25 in M*rks, £8.15 in Mr T and £2.10 in M*rks which makes my final total this month £126.43/£120 and my average daily spend was £4.21. Given how much prices have been shooting up this month I'm quite happy with such a small overspend and think that I will adjust my budget for October as I'd rather economise on other things than food.
The Baking Budget hasn't spent any money this week so I'm declaring that at £22.94/ £20 +£20 bulk fund. That leaves me £17.06 to carry forward in the bulk baking fund.

  • @London_1 I it sounds fabulous

    Declaring final spend for Sept
Last day of Sept - yesterday I went to the home renovations  buil*ing show - lots of good talks as always including 10 lessons of renovations which was very detailed from surveys to rising damp and I was scribbling notes... they had an offer for 40% off the magazine or 3 copies for £5 .. but I looked on their website and they have a 3 copies for £3 offer... They tour this exhibition so there are also free tix for the Birmingham, Surrey, Glasgow and other cities versions - letting you know in case any of you interested https://london.homebuildingshow.co.uk/about

I bought a coffee there at Excel £3.75, I hadnt taken any food beyond a water bottle, and then coming home got caught in the stormy rain that was predicted from Hurricane Ian. Looking at the twitter videos of all the loss of life, property and rescues .. hopefully it will be over soon.

I popped into Mr S as rain was super heavy and spent `£27.60 but this included
bulk stocks inc reduced herbal teas. some Freefrom pasta, lots of YS meats  for the freezer (also some crisps and sweets for a competition and also as part of my treats - again I had not eaten properly being at the Excel all day.

    Grocery Sep 22 GC  Final   £130.94 /£160  +   £30.20 /55.50 bulk (so £25.30 left)
    NSD Sept 16/16

Oct GC is £145 target + £30 extra on bulk so
    £145   +    £55.30 for bulk
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Last spend of the month yesterday in Lid*  of £22.56 . Went in for mushrooms, cucumber, potatoes and lemons and came out with err extras.. not sure if I can count the rum, raisin and nut chocolate or the fancy pasta as essentials but they will be savoured. I seem to do this in Lid* where I cannot resist the unusual nice things. Solution to that is just don't go in! I never see the fruit/veg boxes either and when I asked at the till the lady had no idea what I was talking about!

    Declaring an overspend of £14.40 for September - £264.40 / £250.00

This is ok but worth watching as it's easy to let it slip and think well its a treat and I deserve it. We have been on holiday for the last 3 weeks so it could have been much worse.

See you all in the October GC thread x
  • Did well up until the last few days, where stress and low mood etc led to overspending on “rubbish” that we definitely didn’t need but I’m not going to worry about it now as it’s done.

Declaring at £155.50/150 spent. Hoping to do better next month  :)
