London_1 said:LadyWithaPlan have you thought about a mattress topper I bought one last year as my joints do give me gyp at times (osteo-arthritis) and I think it was around £60.00 for the firm of the 'Big River'
I found it really good and worth every penny I like my bed and didn't really want to change it just make it a bit better for my back.
I don't know if anyone else has had sucess with them but I swear by my one,it has a slightly odd smell when you first put it on your bed but I think its because its been compressed so tightly and an airing for a couple of hours opened out and it soon vanishes

Big river?DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

London_1 said:joedenise, I'll have to look next time i go to the large tesco's at Bowaters roundabout I know the little Metro one doesn't stock it in Rainham. I use my ground ginger to make biscuits with as a rule.
Freezing left over chickpeas sounds a plan as I'm not a burger eater at all, much to my grandsons disgust I don't even like the meat ones eitherOnly thing I ever have from MaccyD's is their milkshakes, very partial to the strawberry ones
My Aldi gammon in the slow cooker is smelling really delicious at the moment I cook it in cola and a smaering of honey so it really has a lovely flavour.

thank you I will check it out as fresh sounds doable and I like the idea of freezing it and only grating what I need as I go .No more shopping now until the new month starts though

I think most supermarkets sell fresh ginger nowadays.
Mine lives in the freezer drawer, which reminds me, I could add some to the pork steak I'm doing in the slow cooker today. I'm already putting in garlic and a spoonful of soy sauce so some grated ginger will go well with that.4 -
£1.50 spent on toiletries, husband forgot the toilet roll so he will hopefully get that today. Managed to get a loaf of bread on olio last night for kids lunches, so no other spends so far.£131.10/150 spent.4

Went to Tesco with DD2, they only visit a few times a year. Spent £123.40! However she has10% staff discount, so i stocked up on pasta, oats, flour, gravy granules, pilchards, loads of other stuff that is price matched. The trolley was filled to capacity. Also £22 in the green grocers. This was 20 apples, 7 oranges, 4 lettuce, punnet of grapes, two bags of sweets, 50 chocolate biscuits and 10 kgs of pickling onions. Total for all these, £145.40. New running total is £2206.61/£2640, for 2022. Still need to pay at the abattoir when we collect the pigs. Hoping to not need much shopping now, before Christmas.
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.8 -
I did a rare top up shop yesterday at MrT for bread and spent £6.45. That's why I normally have a delivery once a week and keep out of the shops. I have the last delivery of the month on Thursday so will admit to total spent then. It's not pretty. All that clutter used to be money5

October GC Now Live!
Hi everyone!
Firstly, has anyone noticed the price of a head of broccoli going up drastically? I'm assuming it's because of the weather earlier in the year - I'm sure I read somewhere that broccoli crops were affected but maybe I have that wrong - 85p for a broccoli in Mr L on 17 Sep vs 56p in Mr T on 2 Sep!! I bought it because broccoli is a staple for me and I was shopping in Mr L that day but WOW that's nearly double what I'd usually expect to pay!
Made one of my favourite curries the other day - it's the Creamy Vegetable Curry from the Oh She Glows cookbook by Angela Liddon - it's so simple and delicious! I have a few favourites from that book including the African Peanut Stew, "detox" soup (sorry about the title of the recipe, i hate the word detox - it makes you feel so warm and lovely lol especially if you have a cold), curried cauliflower soup, red lentil and kale soup and a nourish bowl. I'll try and see if any are online as they are usually everyday ingredients and nothing too fancy but so delicious and wholesome.
EDIT - found online links so I've added them
