Using Instragram to Make Money

I'm interested in learning how having an Instragram account and gaining followers can make someone money - how does this work ?  I have an idea for an account but have no idea how I could make funds from it !

You'd be better off looking into Pinterest as youre able to link pins to products youre selling. (affiliate links etc) Instagram doesnt give you anything like the sort of return you'd get from Pinterest

It's mainly about engagement levels rather than follower numbers. They higher engagement your account has (relevant engagement) means brands would be more willing to work with you on Ads etc which you can get paid for. Some people also make money via affiliate marketing on instagram. Then there's network marketing too. It really depends on your idea for the account.

A relative has an Instagram account for her adventures and travels, she's very good at creating arty photos and scenes. It's taken a few years but she's now at 11k followers and decent levels of engagement, and she works with a few brands who offer her either financial or product support for her vehicle. 

It's doable, but you have to be prepared to put the effort in with daily posts (have your posts planned ahead) and keep stuff ready to post if you're going away on holiday etc so there isn't any gaps in your content delivery. It isn't quick - it can take years to get to a level where the effort begins to show rewards.
