in Cutting tax
Hi everyone
Not posted for ages sorry. Started new job in June 2007and since then been charged emergnecy tax code BRM1, it is my first and only job this year. Last month my code was changed to 522l which was loads better so I rang work to ask when I would get tax back. Payroll said I had to do a new p46 and tick the box stating "my only job since April 2007" and return.
I have done this and now wait patiently for them to pay me back what I have overpaid, whioch I equate to be a few hundred at least.
Will this get paid back in a lump sum and does anyone know when. I am broke due to xmas coming and being taxed so much these last 6 months. I only work 20 hours a week and it's eaten up loads of my salary.
Kind regards
Charlotte

Emergency tax code is 522L Month 1 basis, the BR code you were put on is applied if a P45 is not recieved and a P46 is not filled in.
Did you have any taxable income between last 5 April and starting work, for example jobseekers allowance.
If you did not have any taxable income, then you can tick box A and your employer can then put you on 522L cumulative, they do not have to wait for tax office to OK it, and any tax you have overpaid will be refunded.
If however you have had some taxable income then you need to tick box B and this will then go to the tax office who will in due course advise your employer of tax code and previous pay and tax on a p6 and then you will get back any overpayment if any is due.0 -
Last month my code was changed to 522l
Which indicates one of three things:
1. You've recently completed a P46 incorrectly;
2. Your employer doesn't know what they're doing; or
3. HMRC have issued the new code but need you to confirm this is your only income since April.
Assuming it's not 1 or 2, I'd recommend you call HMRC.Payroll said I had to do a new p46 and tick the box stating "my only job since April 2007" and return.
This would just confuse things and I wouldn't advise it (HMRC might assume you have two jobs with the same employer).Emergency tax code is 522L Month 1 basis
No it's not! Emergency tax code is simply 522L.Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.0
