dealing, not feelings... (getting past the overwhelm)

Options
Hello all,
Writing here to keep me accountable.  Not expecting anyone to read it!

This is my first post and a first step to dealing with debt and money mistakes I've been trying to push away for many years.  I have had many false starts at "dealing" with things, and stumbled every time.   I know from reading other people's posts that the feelings of deep shame and negativity about yourself is something I'm not alone in experiencing.

But wow has taken me a long time to grapple with all of that stuff - and get to.... here?

(btw good luck to anyone who may read this, and feel they're in the same boat).

I'm going to write myself a doable-task to complete by the next time I post, and I aim to check in 2 times a week.

Hopefully no stumbling this time, or at least, when I do - getting back up again!

next doable task:

Put my numbers into the State of Affairs SOA template.

See you there -
MYx

Welcome - we are a nice bunch here and we've all got here in our own time and when we were ready.

there's a great mix of advice, support, cheering each other on and humour.

the SOA will probably be a revelation to you but it's a great first step.

Don't be too hard on yourself - there's a lot of reasons why we find ourselves in this situation. Mine was a credit card with a £500 credit limit when I was 18 and skint. I was widowed when I was 42, all debts paid off and then because I took a career break to look after my small son it seemed like a good idea to put extra expenses on my credit card (now with a much bigger limit). One thing led to another and hey presto £9k of debt. I'lm down to just under £3k now since the end of December 2021. The journey is hard but it will be a bit more pleasant if you constantly tell yourself that you are strong and can do this instead of beating yourself up for doing it in the first place. Good luck.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself, it’s been a particularly hard couple of years for the best of people!

We’re all in the same boat here and I think the solidarity here really helps with motivation, knowing we aren’t alone :)

good luck with your journey! I look forward to reading your updates ❤️
