    Thank you for your reply, @Silvertabby. The letter says "Benefits payable from <date>", where the date is when I am going to be 60. Not sure what the implications and protections of this may or may not be!

    If your actual years of membership, plus number of years in deferment, plus your age (60) total 85, then your pre 2008 benefits will be payable in full from 60.

    Note:  If you have membership followed by deferment, followed by subsequent membership,  all added together, then that period of deferment doesn't count towards R85.

    It seems like a big decision but I'm just going to take the standard option as it seems there's a lot of swings and roundabouts, mainly influenced by lifespan which, at the moment, is information that is not usually easily calculated!
