Advance ticket for strike day 13th August

I have an advance ticket for travel from Tonbridge to Barnstaple on 13th August. It involves Southeastern, London Tube and Great Western Railway. GWR are not running a service on the branch line from Exeter to Barnstaple on the day. Can I use my ticket the day before (12th) just without a reserved seat? If so should I avoid automatic ticket barriers in case my ticket is rejected? Any advice appreciated.

First port of call for queries such as this is GWR website as they should give advice on what to do if you have a ticket for a strike day.
They may allow you to rebook. I wouldn't suggest using multi operator advance ticket on the wrong day unless it has an endorsement.

I had seen the above here: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/industrialaction.aspx
It doesn't seem to explicitly state advance tickets so I was hoping someone could confirm this.0 -
I'm hopefully sorted now. In case it might benefit somebody else in a similar situation, this is what I have done. I went to Barnstaple station and explained the situation to the booking office clerk. He said my ticket was valid for travel at a similar time the previous day (and also for 2 days after) and he also reserved me a seat.1
