Marriage allowance transfer

Hi guys, need a bit of advice please.
My wife, 80, wants to transfer the £1250 allowance to me saving me tax, as she does not use her full allowance.
Backdated if possble?
I am 75.
Both retired, but I have more pensions , and pay tax, wife doesn,t.
Two forms of ID  are required so the rules say.
She can only meet one, passport.
No p60, wageslips, IRISH driving licence! Got her English one, not sure about the credit reference part.etc
Has anyone done this with other forms of ID.
Written to hmrc, not expecting reply anytime soon.
Any advice would be apreciated.

She doesn't need any of that ID.

She does need to contact HMRC, a phone call will do.

Remember HMRC only verify if someone is eligible for Marriage Allowance, they don't advise on whether you (as a couple) can benefit or not.

So before she applies she should be confident about the impact on her.  It may be she has a lot of spare allowance now but could it have been different 4 years ago?

Assuming she is eligible (most people are eligible) then HMRC will review her tax position for each year she applies for and send her a bill if she owes any tax.

They will also review your position (as the recipient) and send you calculations for each year you are overpaid.  If she makes an ongoing application you will also receive an updated tax code for the current tax year.

I did it, don't remember needing two forms of ID, just called HMRC. You may get a better deal because of your/her age but you won't get it at all if paying more than Basic Rate tax say if you have dividends annd interest on op of pensions.

Other than Scottish intermediate rate payers someone paying more than basic rate tax isn't eligible for Marriage Allowance.
