    Are either of them illiterate?  Or did they just sign an agreement without reading and understanding it?  Whilst we can question the morals of sales people, they are there to sell stuff so unless they have explicit lied or represented something in a way that his untrue then it is the responsibility of the buyer to be aware of what they are buying and on what terms.
