Complete tax idiot here.
I've never had to deal with UK taxes to any real extent, but now we have to because we rented out our flat this year. And the question is, when I do I submit a tax return and pay up? Is it early next year before the end of the tax year? (April?) The tenants moved in March this year. If we're late what sort of penalty will be charged?
Thanks for any input!

If the tenants moved in in March, then you will need to submit a tax return for last year 2021/22. The deadline to register for Self Assessment is 5 October, then submit it by 31 January.1
