Hi...does anyone have any tips on using a thermal heat retention cooking bag. Aka Wonderbag?
Hoping to try my hand at making one!

Sounds quite similar to haybox cooking. If so, it's been around for centuries and there are lots of online resources.
    Example:
    N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.
    2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 33MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.
Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.

I use the insulation of my oven similarly sometimes - it may not be quite as good, but it is a fairly well insulated box that is already in my kitchen.

And that's a fraction of the cost!
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I use one regularly - if you use Facebook I have a group called Wonderbag and Hay Box Cooking UK where lots of people share how they use theirs and with links to various guides  to making your own . If you don't sew you can use a box filled with cushions or wrap your pot in a duvet, sleeping bag etc to insulate it.

You beat me to it, I was going to say I've heard of people using old duvets. This is doubly beneficial as we've recently discovered that nobody wants / recycles duvets, and the local tip/recycling centre that has dozens of skips and storage bins, told us to put them in the general waste. Couldn't even find an animal rescue centre (even the one I help out at) that wants them.

PS. I love the photo - "I fits, I sits."
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • Just trying to revive this thread. With current economic situation and the possibility of power cuts, I got our wonderbag out of the loft. I already have a slow cooker - but plan to try and use the wonderbag more regularly. I'm looking for tips and recipes, especially from people who've adapted normal recipes for the wonderbag.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!
