I'm getting a 2.4kwh system installed over east and west on Monday. This is all new to me.
How do you monitor what your using and is there a way of triggering say a smart plug to turn on washing machines and dishwashers when the panels reach the best output?

I think it depends on your inverter.
I have a Solis inverter which shows me my generation. I have recently got the display unit for my smart meter out again. Which I check before turning things on, like the washing machine or dishwasher.
My children were very unhappy with me the other day because the sun suddenly came out as we were about to go out and I rushed back inside to put the washine machine on!4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. Octopus Agile import, gas Tracker. Zoe. Ripple x 3. Cheshire1 -
It depends on your equipment mine I can monitor by Bluetooth to the computer with the software that was supplied.
So you should go to inverter web site for your model and check what comms it uses.0
