What are my options for last year of mortgage but coming to end of fixed rate.

I currently have a fixed rate of 2.79% with Bank of Ireland (They took over Bristol and West after i took out mortgage) This rate ends on 31/12/22.
I calculate that i will owe about £63k with 9 years left on the mortgage on that date. My monthly repayments are £651. LTV is 23%
I plan to retire in Feb 2024 and will be using my lump sum to pay off the mortgage in its entirety.
That leaves me with around a year on BOI's variable rate which is currently 4.24%.
I don't know if i should take the hit on the extra interest i will be paying for that extra 13 months, or see if i can get a 2 year fixed rate and hope that the early repayment penalty will not be more. Alternatively just pay up the mortgage after the 2 years fixed rate ends.
Any advice as to what wiould be the best option would be appreciated, of course the rates look likely to rise more and staying on variable for that 1 year would be more costly.

Hard to suggest anything until you know what they are offering you at the time...

When it comes to remortgaging look at a 2 year offset mortgage, then when you get lump sum fully offset your outstanding balance, no interest or early repayment charge payable. Then close mortgage at end of 2 year period0
