Edit: they seem to be developing a battery tariff and there is Agile.

... developing a battery tariff; interesting - do you happen to know anything more about a possible timeline or rates?

I did ponder Agile; is it worth sucking up the higher incoming costs to benefit from the higher Agile Outgoing prices, for example?
It is not necessary to be on Agile (import) to be in Agile outgoing, apparently. You can be on their price capped tariff (presumably the E7 one too) which may be lower than Agile, and then pair it with Agile outgoing. I plan to switch to Octopus after my fix expires and they confirmed this is possible to me over Twitter DM. What you can’t do is combine agile outgoing with Go or Intelligent as the arbitrage opportunity is massive and they’d lose a ton from people buying low overnight and selling high at peak.
Do you happen to know if you can be on an Economy 7 tariff without an Economy 7 meter?

We do have a smart meter (SMETS2) if that helps?
I had an E7 meter before I switched to Octopus and they installed a SMETs 1 meter. I went straight onto Go. Then a couple years later I installed PV and applied for outgoing fixed. Octopus politely told me I couldn't have both and switched my import back to E7. It is a variable tariff rather than fixed and on a SMETs 1. (Though I believe I have now been transferred to DCC)

My recent experience of signing up of Octopus Go (Which was largely instructed over Twitter DMs) is that you have to confirm to Octopus that you have an Ev.  There were no further checks to have to prove that this was accurate.
They do, of course, have the ability to monitor your overnight usage.

I have a vague feeling that I was asked to provide proof that I had an EV - like my order or something like that. But that was more than 3 years ago, so my memory is vague.

I'm in a rather strange position of having an EV but largely not using the night time rate for charging, due to Scotland's free EV public charging infrastructure. I suspect that this will change in the coming years and I'll use Octopus Go as it was intended. As it stands though, it's largely just a means to get a market leading 12 month fix.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

I strongly recommend actually getting an EV (as long as you can charge at home and have a relatively normal driving pattern).

    Hi all,

We have just installed a solar array with battery storage and were intending to sign up for Octopus Go Faster, but Octopus are no longer offering this to customers who don't have an electric vehicle - which is a shame!

As I understand it, part of the intent of tariffs such as this is to move load from times of peak demand to the small hours of the morning, which we're doing regardless of whether we charge a vehicle battery or a home battery.

    Regardless:

    1. Is anyone else getting the same story from Octopus?

    2. In the absence of access to the Go Faster tariff, what other options are there out there?

    Thanks in advance,

    Simon
This maybe an option for you and they are accepting new customers - it looks likely they will become part of Octopus in the near future and allows customers to join if they want to time shift and isn't just for EV ownership:

I definitely did not have to provide proof of having an ev when joining octopus,  though I could, as I have one.
However if they are monitoring usage, like MrMajika I often charge in the Scottish free chargers, and therefore would not show as using it to charge the ev. so I'd suggest they do not monitor usage, and even if they did, it would be current draw rather than use from specific appliances.

I use go faster to charge my batteries in winter months

    Bumping this thread ...
EDF have published details of their EPG-capped standard variable tariff here. In some regions, for some payment types, their cheap E7 rate is down in single-digit pence.
I could imagine use cases where EDF E7 works out cheaper than Octopus Go, and E7 gets you seven off-peak hours rather than four or five *and* doesn't require you to have an EV. Anyone with a working smart meter should be able to sign up.

Anyone find what their goelectric rates are moving to? - Only thing I could find was for the single rate that was going to 30p electric and 12p gas, nothing for the 35 and 98 TOU tariffs
    I think....
  • We are on Go, but are having difficulty in understanding all the data given for electricity use: for certain periods it seems to be estimated - on the daily half hourly data sheets it sometimes reads 000E+00 and the visual shows no use at all, whereas at other times it is showing e.g.00.001.
Any explanantions or ideas would be welcome.

    Many thanks
