5 years since defaults… next steps

I had 5 defaults about 5 years ago following a divorce. 4 of the debts are now settled (partially satisfied).
I have one sizeable defaulted debt of about 18k. Link Financial own it, they are yet to respond to my CCA request so I believe it’s unenforceable for now.

This default was recorded almost 5 years ago, I know the default will drop off my file after 6 years but will the account/amount still show on my credit file? Thinking how this will be perceived for future lending. I haven’t paid a penny off it in almost a year.
thanks in advance

The default and the entire account will go from your credit file, but if a future lender asks about other debts then (unless it has reached statute barred some point in 2027) you still have to declare itCredit card debt - NIL
Home improvement secured loans 30,130/41,000 and 23,156/28,000 End 2027 and 2029
Mortgage 64,513/100,000 End Nov 2035
2022 all rolling into new mortgage + extra to finish house. 125,000 End 20360 -
I’m no expert (sorry) but there was mention of what happens if they don’t respond to a CCA.
If you stop paying it now, it will remain on your credit file fox 6 years post default, but status bar will be 5 yrs after you last payment.
If you stopped paying it when the default was applied then will remain on your credit file until 6 years post default and the payment would be after 5 years from last payment.
I think that’s right….Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

It will drop off the credit report 6 years after the default date, and will be statute barred 6 years after you last acknowledged it (making a payment or acknowledging it in writing). Those things are independent of each other, the debt camel website has more details.

The default, and the entire entry, will drop off your credit file at the 6 year mark.
The account will no longer be visible to anyone.
Until they respond it will remain unenforceable, however long that may be, the debt will still be owed, but cannot be enforced through the courts, and, as long as no further payment or written acknowledgement takes place, it will eventually go statute barred.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
