Hello - sorry if this is the wrong platform but am struggling to find any answers.
My Mum is 85 and was a teacher from the time that she left college (c1955) until around 80 years of age having mainly been in full time employment overall (albeit in the end was a supply teacher) and so has had over 60 years working. She doesn't receive any teacher's pension however (only a minimum State Pension). I have always assumed this was because back when she started she wasn't on a permanent contract initially and/or opted out as well as opting out of NI contributions due to her married status.
I just wanted to check that this is the case or whether she should have been entitled to a pension at any point or advised as much?
Many thanks.0 -
She would only be entitled if she didn't opt out. Unfortunately many women in those times did opt out of anything that cost extra as it gave them more money and they would be looked after by their husbands after all !She could always make an enquiry with the TPS to see if they have anything in their records https://www.teacherspensions.co.uk/public/contact-us/member-contact-us.aspxor contact the NI records office to see if they have any contracted out history https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/national-insurance-enquiries-for-employees-and-individuals

(only a minimum State Pension).
What exactly do you mean by this?
What does her statement of state pension increase (she would have received it around March this year) show?
