frugal cocktails and celebrations

Options
it's my birthday in 2 weeks, and with my small group of friends who I have invited, have decided to do cocktails. Now I have some of the basic drinks, ie vodka, whisky, port and bourbon, as I was lucky to win a drink hamper at work a few months ago. what I am looking for are suggestions for simple cocktails, and ingredients that I can task my friends to bring. we are all big drinkers on a night out lol so might be worth making a batch up .
today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

a slightly more modern version of a port and lemon is adding vodka to it

    • 60 ml  Ruby Port
    • 30 ml Vodka
    • Lemonade (To Taste)
    • Mint Leaves
    • Lemon Wedge

Simply add the port and vodka to a tall glass filled with crushed ice and top up with the lemonade until you’ve added enough. Stir while you add the lemonade to ensure that the drink it fully mixed. Garnish with the mint and lemon wedge.

How about this Mint Julep which would use the Bourbon and mint from the garden?

I find most cocktails too sweet but have become partial to a simple rum cocktail - 50 ml dark rum, 10 ml sugar syrup, juice of a lime and crushed ice.

I made a batch of sugar syrup and store it in a jar in the fridge.

Im a dab hand with a boston shaker and the one thing everyone under estimates is how much ice you will need to make a few cocktails, also ALWAYS use freshly squeezed fruits in your drinks.

Screwdriver - Vodka and orange juice.

Tequila Sunrise - Tequila, orange juice and grenadine. Would also work with vodka.

Tom Collins - Gin, lemon juice, soda water.

Martini - Various ratios available. Gin or vodka and vermouth. Stir, don't shake.

In general remember the 3:2:1 or 2:1:1 ratio. 3 or 2 spirit: 2 or 1 sweet: 1 tart.

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
