Best way to get to old Trafford stadium

I'm taking my son to Manchester for the stadium tour at old Trafford. We are staying near print works in the city centre. What's the best way to get to the stadium in using public transport. I was thinking tram but couldn't understand which the nearest stop was. I need to get on at exchange square.

Trafford Bar is the nearest tram stop, it's about a 20 minute walk past retail parks and tyre fitting places.
Or walk about 15 minutes through the city centre to Piccadilly Gardens (or get the free shuttle bus) and get a 250 bus that runs past the ground or a 255/256 that runs round the back of it.

Actually, the nearest tram stop is Wharfside which is at the end of Sir Alex Ferguson Way.

From the City centre get to Cornbrook ( from Exchange Square get the East Didsbury tram )
At Cornbrook take the tram to the Trafford Centre and Wharfside is the second stop.

PS I assume you are going to Old Trafford football ground and NOT the cricket ground !
  • If you have time a wander around Salford Quays is quite good as well .....the war museum, Coronation St set, media city (BBC).....probably worth  a couple of hours but works well with the tram as you can go back to Manchester from near media city.

Wharfside is about a 90 second walk

Thank you to everyone. Had a lovely time in Manchester with the kids and my son loved the stadium tour. The tram system is fantastic and was very easy to get there. A minute or two to walk if that from wharfside.
