Occupational adoption pay

Does anyone understand how this works? My wife works for the council and the rules on this are as clear as mud.

You may need to be more specific about what the relevant council contract says. There isn't a one size fits all because some go over and above the statutory requirements.
Adoption pay and leave: Pay - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

How old is the child and which bits seem unclear to you?

So similar to maternity leave but with added bits dependent on the child's age.

We’re not sure about the age as we’re in the early stages of it and just trying to sort the money out early. The bit about the pay for 0-1 year old in weeks 1-6 and 7-18?

So this is on top of SAP?

I’d read the week 1-6 that SAP is taken into account so she’d get SAP plus whatever extra is needed to take it up to the 90% of her usual wage.

Week 7-18 -  SAP plus half pay up to her normal wage - they’re not going to pay anything that is over and above that.

But as someone else said, checking with HR would be your best bet,

I’ll get my wife to Email HR again and see if they can clarify it and put it in a simpler way I can understand.

That looks like standard Local authority maternity/adoption pay. You get 90% of salary in first 6 weeks (but that includes your SAP), week 7-18 is half of normal pay plus SAP. For 21 weeks it’s just SAP.

Yes, the amounts in the first 6 weeks  are inclusive of SAP.

SAP is 90% of normal pay, so in the first 6 weeks she will get 90% of normal pay, which is what the statutory entitlement is.

After tht, SAP falls to £156.66 per week OR 90% of normal pay, whihcever is lower.

As I read it, in weeks 7-18 she would get 50% of her normal salary plus SAP, capped at whatever her normal weekly pay is
so if normal weekly pay was £400, she would get £200 + £156.66

If her normal pay was £300 she would get £150 + £156.66 but because that's more than her normal pay it would be capped at £300.

Then after week 21 she would just get the SAP of £156.66 p.w.
