  • :) thanks reya am going to check out the old style board i am quite lazy when it comes to food and shopping so am sure i can make some drastic savings there

Phil, this was me too, had let my ex do the shopping etc for FAR too long, check out the old style board for meal plans, recipies and ideas, its brilliant. Another piece of advice I had on here was to get a slow cooker (the one i got was from the Argos for about £13) its dead easy, you bung all your ingrediants in go to work, come home and voila! A meal! Awesome!

Good luck with the rest, the folk on here are amazing.

  • Hi and welcome,

Just a thought with the bank account... I was with Lloyds paying £15 per month cos I got breakdown cover etc but ive switched to A & L through quidco and got £50 for switching and they give you an 0% interest for the first year if you need it. Ive also changed my breakdown cover through quidco and got money back for that too.
Sorry not really got any more advice but hope that helps.

Just been rereading your SOA. If you are on a water meter save your rainwater for flushing the loo as well as watering the garden. You could try your local Council to see if they have any cheap deals on water butts and the attachments for down pipes.
Check out the snowballer as well to make sure you are clearing your debts in the right order (ie highest APR 1st - throw the most you can at it). If you have online banking you will be able to transfer small amounts as and when you have spare cash.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

    Hi and welcome :hello:

Another option for the phone/ broadband - I've recently got a T Mobile contract on their Web & Walk Plus tarrif - £42.50 a month for 1000 texts/ 900 mins (any combination to that value), plus a phone that you can use as a modem with your computer - the monthly payment includes unlimited internet access both on the phone and when using as a modem. It's saved me a fortune compared to previously having a mobile + landline + seperate internet provider. Obviously no TV included there, it depends how bothered you are about having particular channels, I've only got normal TV at the moment but am planning to pick up a Freeview box cheap off eBay in the New Year.

I see you're already planning to make your own lunches - go for it, this is another thing that's saved me loads over the last few months :)

    Good luck x

I have 2 1000 litre IBC's (pallatised storage tank) with my name on them at work just waiting for a van to be free to get them home i have a big garden so am going to utilise that to grow my own veg in 2008 and planned to use them for watering i didn't think to use them to do the toilet though any ideas on how much you should use each time?

as both my cards will be on interest free from tomorrow i will need to look at my loan but i am pretty sure i have an early repayment clause on it should that be the case is it worth me paying the cards off as quickly as possible and then balance transfering the loan onto a card interest free?

Hi redsquirrel and thanks for the welcome if the plan to get a cheaper tarrif with virgin doesn't work i will be ditching my home phone to cut it down i very rarely make calls to be honest i have a 500 text 500 minute mobile contract that i don't use either so was going to drop for a cheap pay as you go as soon as my contract ends i really only get incoming calls and they are usually from my boss giving me work so may not get one at all :rotfl: . As for the tv i would like to keep as much as possible i don't really get out much and between that and reading its the only entertainment i really have blimey i lead a sad life lol
