Amazon claim I sent wrong phone back and won't refund

I returned an Iphone 13pro to Amazon but they say they received a samsung s8 with broken screen back! I purchased this on Amazon monthly payments so they are still charging me. I have asked for photographic evidence of the incorrect item but they say they do not have evidence and have discarded the incorrect item. They say they will not refund until they receive the correct item, but how can I return it when I already have?? I am getting nowhere with this.
I had AppleCare on this but as I signed out of my Apple account on the iPhone before returning it Apple say they cannot help?
I returned it special delivery but the post office cannot help as they delivered the parcel correctly.
Any advice greatly recieved.. :'(

I seem to remember hearing about this sort of scam where the phone being returned is intercepted and then a rubbish one put in it's place.
I would think your first port of call is the police - it's fraud or theft - get a crime reference number then you can start again with Amazon.1 -
Surely the problem for Amazon is that just as many customers could ber returning incorrect items and then blaming the courier..DE_612183 said:I seem to remember hearing about this sort of scam where the phone being returned is intercepted and then a rubbish one put in it's place.

However with a CRN they will have to get the courier to investiagte.
I would also presume that with a CRN the OP has something to take to court should they stop paying and amazon take action.1 -
Sorry.. what is a CRN? I'm not sure what the courier could investigate.. they delivered a parcel.. it's the contents which are disputer.DE_612183 said:

Crime Reference Number - Report theft to police and get one.0

Did the post office weigh the package?

i'm not sure how Amazon can claim that you have sent back an incorrect item, and then dispose of it. Surely they should return, or safely store, what they are suggesting is your property0

Quite an increase in these kind of posts recently - makes me think twice about buying an expensive item from Amazon TBH.0
