Claiming tax relief on business travel expenses

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice please.

I'm currently an employee on PAYE with a permanent base of employment. I've been offered a 12 month secondment within the same company that requires me to work 2 days a fortnight in London.

Due to budget constraints in the department I am moving to work to, they have advised that they wouldn't be able to pay travel expenses and are asking me to cover this - whilst it's not ideal, from a career perspective it would be a good move for me so I'm not averse to that.

Am I right in thinking that in these circumstances, because it's a limited time secondment with my existing employer, I would be able to claim tax relief on the travel expenses via my self assessment tax return?

Thanks
