Deadlines are meaningless. They want the right person for the job.
Deadlines should be stuck to. Otherwise it is unfair on those who made the effort to stick within the time.

In most larger and corporate and govt organisations the deadlines are strict.

It's not unfair because people who apply before the deadline know they will definetly be considered but people who apply after may or may not be considered. Even in large corporations they still want the best person for the job so they arn't going to reject someone just because they applied late if it still works within their timescales.

The job application is the first step in a position. If the person cannot stick to the deadline then it can make the employer think 'are they going to stick to other deadlines?'.

It's a matter of opinion and the employer.

Exactly like i said it doesn't make it unfair to people who applied within the timeframe because people who apply before know they will definetly be considered and people afterwards may or may not be considered because it might look bad that they applied late.

Plus there are lots of valid reasons to apply to a job late and there are lots of reaons for an employer to accept late appliers.

So like i said it isn't unfair to apply late like you said.

And it's the employer's opinion that matters!

Although the OP applied 'late' it may be that their manager convinced them that they should apply.  As many have said, getting the right person for the job is the most important thing, even if they break their own rules to do it.
