I have private dental and private glasses/optical....that I purchase online

Can I claim back up to the NHS value for any of the above? If I say have paid £90 for hygienist and check up, can I claim the NHS limit on these two back myself?
Same with optical....I have a complex prescription.

Optical - yes (under certain circumstances that might apply here due to the complex prescription).

Dentist (or any other medical treatment) - No.

In my view there is a valid argument to be made that, if you go privately for something the state would have paid for, you should be able to claim whatever it would have cost the state to provide that service. However, that is not how it works and as far as I know there are no proposals from any political party to change to such a system.

Please do tell how you can claim anything retrospectively for optical charges.

Help may be available during the examination and prescribing phase but not once you have paid it all yourself.

A HC5 form can be submitted upto 3 months after the date. There is an allowance to retrospectively claim back. Not sure why you keep insisting wrongly there isn't.

OK, I stand corrected, bur having looked at the HC5(O) and HC1 forms help is only available to those on certain benefits or a defined Low Income.

The OP will need to check eligibility.

The OP has already confirmed they have a 'complex' prescription so will as a minimum be able to have the private sight test fee reimbursed. The NHS will then knock this off the practices NHS payment.
