Bridge to replace tooth extraction on nhs

I saw the dentist this pm as my filling came off and was advised to either have a bridge or an in plant. Given a quote of £1600+ to have a bride in middle and a crown on each side. I was advised to take a dental plan as it will be much cheaper £345 per bridge. Checking nhs dental treatment band 3 is £282.84. I wonder whether he quoted the price of private treatment instead of nhs. Anybody knows anything about the cost of bridge on nhs. Thanks

Sorry to be late to this - but I'm not that clear on what you've been told?

Bridges aren't done on the NHS very often at all, as on the NHS the dentist may use the 'most cost effective' way to fix any issue, and the most cost effective way to fix a missing tooth is normally a plastic denture. That option should have been discussed with you though, even if only to eliminate it. 

I'm not sure how the 'dental scheme' makes it that much cheaper, as usually you need to be dentally fit to join a scheme, and anything 'pre-existing' needs to be sorted out before you can join.

It’s the dental practice own dental plan. You pay a membership of £12 and then £9.99 a month and you get discounted treatment e.g examination is £18 but you have to pay X-rays at £7. So it does really work out cheaper except for the bridge work. One bridge at £345 each I will need three and 2 false crown at £40 each. I am still undecided as am concerned about having issues with the bridge.
