I keep asking local companies for split aircon install costs but they fall silent when I say I want a multisplit.
Is this a multi split air to air source heat pump or just a regular inverter split aircon?
One inverter and 2 outputs for 2 separate rooms.

Aircon direct offer installation but I don't really want to pay upfront and find out it cant be done due to planning!

Have you considered a Daikin or Panasonic multi room A-A heat pump?

One thing to consider, is that with a split unit they will probably insist on a separate supply.  Our installer was happy to install our 3.5 kw unit off a spur out the back of a socket.

As the running power is less than 1 kw and the start-up current is not much more, I am not sure why you couldn't spur a bigger unit off a socket - I got the feeling from several installers that they confused the cooling output with the input power.

@Spies maybe contact some industrial installers.. I wonder if the runs are too long for multi split.  If aesthetics is not a problem, then having two individual units would be better.

Planning - you would need it, irrespective as the units can cool even though you may not use it.  Unless you have pesky neighbours, you should not face problems from the Planning/council.

Multi split will need 20A circuit and cannot be taken from the rings, I asked this to my installer when I was getting the 7.1KW unit installed.

    False.
Only a split or duct system works
    False.
a cheap one isn’t much more than the unit here
    False.
plus it will save you a fortune over 5years.
Impossible to say without knowing the intended use and duty cycle.
    Great reasoned argument there.
Think about it. The hose blows hot air out of the house. Where does the hot air come from? Inside the house obviously. So the unit has to draw air from in the house and blow it out the window. So all the time it’s in use it’s blowing conditioned air out of the window. That’s the major flaw in a single hose system.
So as your bedroom cools down the rest of your house is absorbing just as much heat if not more than your expelling. Efficiency can actually be less than 0.

Next issue is the compressor is inside. Compressors get extremely hot. Then there’s the condensate? Yep that gets blown onto the hot compressor and out of the window. More inefficiency.

There’s a very good reason that’s portable air conditioner units are not subjected to the same efficiency tests as splits. If the manufacturers were honest then nobody would touch with a barge pole.
You can get a small mini split installed for around £900-£1200.

The only way you could say over five years that you’re not saving that amount of difference is if you wilfully ignore the above well-known facts. By all means do so for yourself but please don’t advise others to follow that.

Try the Toshiba mini VRF system. I have 4 internal units from a 14kW compressor with over 60m of pipe.

Thank you, I followed your lead.

Agreed. Your specific statement was however "portable aircon doesn’t work" without any further qualification. That statement is demonstrably false.
So as your bedroom cools down the rest of your house is absorbing just as much heat if not more than your expelling.
If your exhaust air is at 60C and you're make-up air is at 30C, you're still cooling the home. (I can't be bothered to fire mine up just to get some flow/temp data.)
Next issue is the compressor is inside. Compressors get extremely hot. Then there’s the condensate? Yep that gets blown onto the hot compressor and out of the window. More inefficiency.
None of this is "more inefficiency".

Please provide some evidence for this claim. Boxt for example want at least £2k.

Alternatively, in the real world ...
Let's imagine I paid full list price for my unit, £300. Let's also say that I could get one of these mythical fully-installed mini-splits for £900. That's a difference of £600.
My mobile has run for ten days this year, 12h a day, total 120 hours. At roughly 1kW that's 120kWh, and at 28p/kWh it makes a total of £33.60.
Even if the mythical £900 mini-split is so efficient that it runs for free, it would still take almost 18 years to save £600 at £33.60/yr.

I don't say this often QrizB but... well summarized!

The Delonghi costs ~£500 to purchase and consumes just under .5kW per hour. So a couple hundred more to purchase but even lower running costs of around £16 per annum. 25 years to recover the cost difference of a split aircon at £900  This will continue to rise in proportion with electricity prices.

The one argument in favour of a split is the cooling capability. Even the Delonghi portable will struggle to drop room temperatures below 19 degrees Celsius. A split unit can achieve 2-3 degrees cooler room temperatures in real world conditions but many won't need to achieve such low temperatures in the real world.

But getting the noise out of the room, Priceless!

Of course mini splits have a greater advantage if needed for heating vs oil rads. ....'Im ready to get destroyed by the math'
