Reclaim tax from pension

Back in April I cashed in a pension.
Some of the tax is emergency tax I believe.
I received a code from HMRC once I applied to reclaim it but the email said I should receive an answer in 15 days.
That was about 8 weeks ago.
Still not heard a thing.
Can anyone advise please?

That depends on what "cashed in" actually means, it could be taxed at BR or 1257LX depending on what actually happened.
Unfortunately anything that takes a HMRC human to look at is taking a very long time at the moment.

  • Which tax year it was paid in would be useful information.

It was a private pension I cashed out this year in April.

    Exactly when in April ?
A new tax year started on 6th April so the exact date will be significant.

You said that in your original post.

The tax refund situation will depend on which tax year you were paid the pension.

1-5 April falls into the 2021:22 tax year

6-30 April falls into the 2022:23 tax year

Try https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-when-you-can-expect-a-reply-from-hmrc for an estimate of how a reply is likely to take (but bear in mind it could still be longer - or with luck sooner!).
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

It appears that you have made the application and received an acknowledgement.

    According to the above

Once you've sent the form you'll get the money back within 30 days.

    HMRC running late?

That’s what I’m hoping as I haven’t heard anything since.
