I would not take what they say for granted, You should still provide some kind of defence, as these things tend to still go through, despite what the call handler tells you, however if you can live with a CCJ, then of course its your decision.

I'd respond to the court claim giving the same income/expenditure info that stepchange have. That way you should get a ccj ordering you to pay what you already are, rather than a default judgement ordering you to pay the whole amount in one go.

If they choose not to proceed with the claim, that's up to them but you cannot rely on that happening without them confirming it in writing.

You have 14 days from service date to respond.

I responded to the court forms
It gave the option of sending back to the payday loan company so that's what I did
I just reinforced the message that I'm working with Step Change and gave their reference number
I'm proud of myself for facing up to it
I think the increase in my medication is starting to help

Its a case of wait and see what happens now then.

Should this all go pear shaped, and you get a CCJ, don`t panic, as sometimes a judgement can be made to be paid forthwith, i.e. straight away, "if" that should happen, its ok, as you can apply to pay in instalments by making a request to the court for an instalment order.

I`m just covering all the bases here, as hopefully this company with stay the case when they see your situation, but if they don`t, then we can help you deal with it, just so you know..

After being in debt for 28 consecutive years, I've always escaped court action.
It does seem a bit heavy handed after I gave them the Step Change reference.
I feel okay about it. I got 2 hours overtime this month so that's £22.08 towards it.

I'm guessing the judge can't make you pay what you don't have. I feel okay about it.
It would have tipped me over the edge a week ago. Thank God for medication.

It's just a bit of paper. Don't worry about it but do let us know how it develops.
