I would have thought there's a few people round here that remember the days of the Ryanair 1p each way flights and benefitted.

Never managed it myself, but I've had a few £20-40 return fares with them, which is rediculously cheap to fly accross Europe.

I was doing a rail trip around Scotland and (by chance) realised that the first class ticket (with a senior Railcard) was less than the 2nd class... close to £5 back in 2017.  There were two of us in First Class - the other was an employee of ScotRail..

I benefitted a lot from the recent half price train fares as I got half price tickets plus another 30% off for my over 60 card , so I did London to Norwich for about £7 return and London to York 1st class return for £40.

Had the good common sense to travel  during 2020 while others decided to stay home.

Saw so many lovely parts of Europe with flights all less than £30 (including checked bags - thanks Easyjet), staying in hotels that were 25% of the normal rates and having the opportunity to see the sights without crowds (how many can say they were the only people on the Spanish steps in Rome on a sunny August evening?).

Just a shame that the governments decided to ruin in all in 2021 with test requirements AFTER we were all vaccinated.......most bizarre groupthink government decision in my lifetime.

Yes there were some good deals, very cheap flights, our best was £5 to Venice, and even packages, we went to Greece on a TUI package under £150 each in Autumn 2020.

Got a National Express coach from London Victoria to Sheffield for £1.50. Was around 2009/2010 when I was studying at SHU.
