I moved from Devon to Dorset 5 years ago.  My NHS dentist in Devon was happy for me to remain there although it is an 80 mile return journey.  I went a couple of times then Covid struck.  When  phoning the dentist all you got was a message saying they were only treating emergencies but as they didn’t answer the phone and you couldn’t leave a message I’m not sure how you could get emergency treatment  :D

Ive been looking for an NHS dentist for 5 years but we live in a wealthy market town and  NHS dentists are as rare as hens teeth.  My Devon dentist says I am no longer with them as I haven’t been in contact  :D

Someone recommended a dentist but when I went to sign on they weren’t even taking new private patients.

Fortunately I have now found one that is private and I should be able to afford it as long as I don’t need anything major,  fingers crossed,  my first appointment is tomorrow.

I feel certain my experiences are quite common.
In England, technically there is no such thing as "being with" an NHS dentist. Once they have finished the current course of treatment they are not obliged to see you again.

If they choose they are free to only see regular patients but there is no longer registration.
