Marriage Tax Allowance tax codes

I applied for M.T.A earlier this year everything was fine until my husband received an email saying his tax code has changed its gone from 1389M to 1207LX

So i checked mine and its gone from 1137N to 1263L

Don't know what's happened there could it be because i changed employer?

Do i need to re-apply or should i just ring tax office

We're either of you liable to higher rate tax in the previous tax year?

If so HMRC cancel it from that year onwards (assuming you applied for the 2021:22 tax year in the first place).

But you can reapply if neither of you expect to be higher rate in the current tax year.

The way i understand it is the highest tax payer applies for the MTA ,last year my wife applied and she was given part of my personal tax allowance as i do not pay tax ( under threshold ) but this financial year things are reversed so i applied for the MTA which gives me more tax free allowance as this year i will pay tax and my wife is below the tax threshold.

No,  that's incorrect - the one who applies is the one who is giving away part of their allowance, so it needs to be the lower earner who applies.
