How to be profitable as a contractor

You seem to be set on contracting in london, but have you not considered remote contracting.
You could do two client day jobs and thus maximise income based on favourable time zone differences.
I know a few self employed consultants who are remote consulting in the US and Europe on a 12 hour day but are taking home close to 1200 a day0 -

Would also be somewhat curious of the claimed split of the £1,200 as whilst UK contractors are almost exclusively on a professional day basis in the US its virtually exclusively hour rate basis. If they are limiting themselves to 12 hour working days cannot see how they are getting more than an average of 2-4 hours from their US clients a day. That said, there are many more part time contract opportunities over there too.0 -

An example would be 750 sterling a day for doing a european project (6-12) and then 900USD for a US project (12-6) the working hours being pretty flexible due to it being piece work.0
