Using own car - pence per mile

    You can claim tax relief on the difference between 13p and 45p (on the first 10,000 miles).

    But for most people that will be worth 6.4p or 12.8p/mile.

    Your employer paying say 28p or more will be worth more in your pocket.

    Yes, sorry, this is what I meant. The tax relief between the both.
    I do around 10000 per year. 
    Plus £4500 per year. Taxable and paid monthly.

Based on current petrol prices that costs me around £760 pa. I don't spend anything like the remainder of the mileage on servicing and consumables, it would take a very expensive car, or something with a very low MPG to mean there was a cost.

    Exactly.

    Most employees who do a limited number of miles per year for their employer and collect 45p per mile (tax free) are well in pocket. If you are doing a very significant mileage for work, to the point that it influences the sort of car you choose to run, then the equation gets more complex.
