Need about £18k in 6 days.  Can't see them doing it unless someone puts a big chunk of money in.  No businesses have contributed.

Businesses won't contribute because I suspect that doing so would keep an option open that would harm their bottom lines, aid their competitors or damage their relationship with the company that owns all the data.

As I feared, it appears the company who sent a cease and desist is unhappy with them scraping data from shop and supermarket websites as they have the exclusive legal right in the UK to image and data on products including prices. Web scraping can be as simple as visiting a web page and copying the price of an item all the way to automated bots doing it in bulk and quickly.

This won't stop with Trolley as I previously said. This could affect HotUKDeals too and potentially even MSE.

I'm not sure if they are allowed those so-called 'crowd funding' sites appeal?

the site does say that they can pay the data company in quarterly installments (£7.2k) - currently they've got nearly £12k, so they'll be around for a few more months yet.... though I don't see how this donation model could work long-term.. they'll need to move to subscriptions or some other funding model.
