Don’t think there has been any change.

Off Peak Day Return is £7.50

I think you have previously travelled off-peak and now travelling peak.

on GWRs website shows as £7.40 for an off-peak day single and £9 for an anytime day return.

Travel after 09.30 for the cheaper price.

No , I buy my son his ticket occasionally when he is out of cash , he always travels at peak time.

My post was about the cost of a single going up and compared to an open return
    Single £9
    Open  return £9.3

That screenshot shows peak at £9 and off-peak at £7.40 as I said.

It is possible that which trains are peak and off-peak has changed with the new timetable in May, but generally peak has already been before 9am that looks unlikely.

As far the price of a return being only slightly more that a single, that has always been the case, even way back 30+ years ago with British Rail.
